Gum Disease Treatment

It hides in dark, moist places and causes major health problems, like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. What is it? Gum disease. Do you have it? You may if your gums bleed when you brush, or if they are red or swollen. But don’t despair, general dentist Dr. Rasmussen can help.

The American Dental Association estimates that 80 percent of Americans have this chronic disease. As yet, there is no cure, but effective treatment can contain the effects of the gum disease. Through careful, expert treatment, our hygienist partners with our patients on a mission to control periodontal disease. Sometimes patients simply need a review of how to beef up their homecare routine. Other cases may call for a thorough hygiene treatment and may include scaling (the scraping of affected surfaces) and/or planing (sanding of rough tooth roots.) If the hygienist finds infection, Arestin, a topical antibiotic, will be applied to kill infection. Our patient library has more information.

You can optimize your oral health and minimize the physical health risks associated with gum disease by keeping a regular, bi-annual checkup schedule. It’s never too soon to practice good oral hygiene. Call the office of general dentist Dr. Rasmussen today to schedule your appointment. Located in Plymouth, our patients come from across the area, including Crystal, New Hope and Minneapolis.
